Poster campaign draws attention to worsening treatment of women

According to the UN, 99.3% of women in Egypt are victims of sexual harassment, with 91% saying they feel insecure in the streets as a result. As it stands Egyptian law doesn’t help; the crime isn’t clearly defined, making prosecuting difficult and often resulting in women being blamed for the harassment they’ve suffered.

The posters, created by artist Ahmed Nady to highlight this problem, depict the challenges women face on a daily basis. Abdel Fattah al-Sharkawy, co-founder of Imprint, the non-profit making organisation behind the campaign, decided to work with comic strips because “they’re catchy and colourful, drawing people of all ages in to explore the stories they tell.”

The work can be seen in this Guardian article.
