Show of support at Edinburgh Festival for imprisoned Iranian cartoonist

Cartoonists from around the globe, including The Observer’s Chris Riddell, came out in support of Atena Farghadani at the Edinburgh Festival.
In June, following a trial that lasted just half an hour, Iran sentenced the 29 year old cartoonist to more than 12 years in prison. Her crime? “Insulting members of parliament through paintings”.

Like everybody else, ever since Hebdo I’ve thought a lot about state persecution of individuals and about the mad bastards who run Islamic State. I wonder what would happen if all the countries directly affected by their sort of extremism, including the U.S. and the U.K. and most of Europe said “OK, you win. What do you want us to do. We’ll do it in return for you stopping slaughtering people ?” Answers on a roadside bomb to…………………..
