We’re pleased to be working again with Whale & Dolphin Conservation particularly on their campaign to persuade people and companies not to tour Dolphin and Orca shows where they are kept in captivity. Last year we collaborated at the launch campaign in the House of Commons with #EndCaptivityNow.
This year we’ve been involved in the #DontGoToTheShow initiative. There are almost 4,000 whales, dolphins and porpoises held in tanks and sea-pens around the world. They’re all very social creatures that live in large family groups in the wild, and they also swim large distances so to be incarcerated in such small spaces is particularly traumatic, indeed some water parks feed them tranquillisers like valium because of the stress they endure.
Today we were at a supporters event outside Gloucester where cartoons from our Commons exhibition were on display. Sarah, Boyce, Frank the PCO Inflatable Dolphin and I did drawing sessions with attending children. The whole day was memorable and lovely to meet so many people involved and supporting whale and dolphin conservation.
