href=\"https:\/\/procartoonists.org\/portfolios\/jamesmellor\/\">James Mellor<\/a> introduces his new book:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The coronavirus pandemic has caused the biggest changes to our society in my lifetime.\u00a0 The changes have been extreme and have affected all aspects of how we live and work.\u00a0 Importantly, the new way of living has also proved to be very funny, on occasion.\u00a0 Has anyone ever experienced a seamless zoom meeting?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-109843\" src=\"https:\/\/procartoonists.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Put-on-a-Happy-Face-Eye-1516-500x432.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"432\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Cartoon published in Private Eye \u00a9 James Mellor<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Some of these changes to our lives may remain with us, but many will pass into memory.\u00a0 Creating a compendium of my favourite cartoons documenting this time seemed like a valuable endeavour.\u00a0 It\u2019s also true that nothing better reflects my work for the past two years.\u00a0 Covid-19 has dominated the news and therefore my cartoons.<\/p>\n<p>I have cartooned the pandemic in a variety of different arenas.\u00a0 My topical, satirical cartoons on appeared in Private Eye Magazine throughout the period.\u00a0 I was also commissioned by various sectors to help them communicate with cartoons.\u00a0 Amongst the projects were cartoons introducing new safety measures on public transport and a successful illustrated pitch to manufacture vaccines.\u00a0 Most importantly however, were all the silly, surreal, and sometimes downright strange cartoons created to make people laugh and keep them entertained during a downright strange time.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-109844\" src=\"https:\/\/procartoonists.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/UK-variant-500x359.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"359\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Cartoon \u00a9 James Mellor<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Everyone has been through a traumatic event, whether they realise that yet or not.\u00a0 Human beings are meant to be social animals (yes, even we cartoonists who work alone in studios, bunkers, and crypts).\u00a0 Even for those who stayed well, the isolation and distancing will have taken its toll.\u00a0 Without entertainment and light relief, I think a lot of us would have gone mad.\u00a0 Humour keeps us going through adversity and the cartoons that have raised a smile and raised morale have certainly been the most important.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-109845\" src=\"https:\/\/procartoonists.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/garden-bar-500x401.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"401\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Cartoon \u00a9 James Mellor<\/em><\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s great about compiling a new book is the opportunity to bring together cartoons from all the different areas I work in.\u00a0 Hopefully there\u2019s a nice mix of satirical and silly.\u00a0 Perhaps we\u2019re near the end of the Covid story, or perhaps this is only the end of the beginning.\u00a0 Either way, this book marks the strange and unexpected ways the world has changed for us and the funny side of the new normal.\u00a0 Not that the old normal was very normal either.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large
